We completed a mosaic mural in Ote Park in Oita, Japan, Austin’s Sister City, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Austin–Oita Sister City program. The artwork was unveiled during an official delegation visit led by Austin Mayor Pro Tem Vanessa Fuentes, in partnership with the City of Oita’s International Affairs Division.

Featuring the iconic landscape of Mount Takasaki, the mural reflects the longstanding cultural exchange between the two cities and serves as a lasting symbol of international connection, collaboration, and shared civic values.

The Mosaic Workshop owner and lead artist, J Muzacz, taught the awesome art students at Tsurusaki Technical High School about our mosaic practice, and they helped place tiles to create the final mural. They even helped out during the lively installation days, getting their hands dirty and working together to create this public monument of cultural exchange.
