American YouthWorks
We made a series of six mosaic portraits made in collaboration with American YouthWorks students and staff. The portraits depict cultural leaders and social justice icons such as Malala Yousafzai, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Malcolm X, Ruby Bridges, and Nipsey Hussle.
About American YouthWorks American YouthWorks connects young people with the tools and resources to reach career goals and achieve academic success through two primary education and career training programs: YouthBuild Austin and Conservation Corps.
These programs provide the building blocks for learning and engagement that young people can build upon as they grow into adulthood. Conservation Corps crew members conserve natural landscapes and recreation areas across the Central Southern United States, and disaster Response Teams are deployed to assist communities impacted by natural disasters. In their YouthBuild Austin program, young people have the opportunity to complete their high school education while serving the Greater Austin community and engaging in valuable vocational training in the growing Healthcare, IT and Construction industries.
