Ghisallo Cycling Initiative

With the help of Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, we created a series of 17 mosaic art portraits of Black female and Chicana/Latina civil rights leaders from Austin and beyond whose impacts can still be seen today. Ghisallo Cycling led a fundraising effort in the summer of 2020 to commission the portraits, for which they matched up to a certain amount. Community members across Austin and beyond all pitched in to help fund this series, many of which are still publically displayed around Austin.

Ghisallo oversaw fundraising, budgeting, and operations, subject selection and contextualization in collaboration with Decipher City and GAVA. All money raised by both Ghisallo and the community went directly to the artists or covered the costs of materials, production, and installation.
