SQUARE FEET

The mosaic mural diptych conceived by artist J Muzacz and made with the help of Austin’s cycling communities and The Mosaic Workshop, We All Ride is a testament to the strength of solidarity when individuals come together with a common shared goal and vision. Showcasing the unity in community that comes with riding your bike alongside others, cyclists of all ages, shapes, and sizes, on lots of different kinds of bikes, rode up and helped place tens of thousands of tiles at volunteer workdays hosted by artist J Muzacz and The Mosaic Workshop collaborators at Something Cool Studios.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & INSTALLATION

Encapsulated in the ethos and process of this public art piece are the shared memories of a multitude of Austin's citizens, sitting side-by-side setting tiles into place, creating a glitchy quilt-like aesthetic, inspired by a digital photographic collage reference, but not bound by it. Expressing imagery through a millennia-old mosaic tradition, yet informed by contemporary technologies, expert craftsmanship, and with the incredible luster of vitreous glass, We All Ride is a monumental achievement and stride forward into the realm of possibility when inclusive and accessible participatory public art making is applied toward the creation of permanent landmarks suitable for our everyday shared environment.
